Tsuzuri Project ”Country Scenes and Mount Fuji” High-Resolution Facsimile Special Exhibit

Tue, June 24, 2025 - Sun, August 31, 2025: Hokusai's original painting "Country Scenes and Mount Fuji", a pair of six-panel folding screens, depicting vast rural landscape, with Mount Fuji visible in the rear. It is thought to date from the same period as Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, one of his masterpieces in the woodblock print medium. This folding screen painting was displayed at the world’s first Hokusai printing exhibition, held in Boston in 1893.

This exhibition has set aside "Free-to-talk Time". During this time, we lower the barriers that "you must not talk in the exhibition room" and "you must view the artworks in silence," allowing you to enjoy the exhibition while chatting casually. Sat, May 10, 2025: In this event, we’ll demonstrate how to print Hokusai’s ‘The Great Wave’.
‘The Great Wave’ is a multicolor woodblock print. Hokusai made the sketch and a skilled carver created the blocks used to print them. A printer then created multiple woodblock prints.
