Where is the nearest railway station?
  • A 5-minute walk from the Toei Oedo Line Ryogoku station A3 exit
    *There is only elevator access to the A3 exit (there are no stairs)Cross the intersection in front of the A3 gate and go straight on Hokusai-dori street. Turn right at the second traffic light Midorimachi Koenmae and you will see the museum (silver building) in front of the JR railway overpass.
  • A 9-minute walk from JR Sobu Line Ryogoku station East exit
    Go straight along the JR railway overpass where a wide road (Kiyosumi-dori street) is in view. Cross the pedestrian bridge on the right side* and proceed straight along the railway overpass. Turn left at the crossroads over towards the convenience store, Family Mart, and pass through the railway overpass until you can see the museum (silver building).
    *In case the pedestrian bridge is not available for use, cross the traffic light on Midori Itchōme which is located 100m towards the right, and walk back to the railway overpass.
  • Take a Toei Bus bound for [錦 (Nishiki) 27] or [両 (Ryo) 28] from JR Kinshicho Station South Exit Platform 8, get off at the Toei subway station Ryogoku Station (Edo-Tokyo Museum) and then a 5-minute walk to the museum.
    After getting off, cross the intersection outside “Edo-Tokyo Museum” and walk along Hokusai Street. Turn right at the second traffic light Midorimachi Koenmae and you will see the museum (silver building) in front of the railway overpass.
  • Take the bus circulating the Sumida ward “Sumida Hyakkei Sumimaru-kun and Sumirin-chan” South Route (Ryhogoku and Kinshicho Route) from the JR Kinshicho station North Exit. Get off at the nearest stop “Sumida Hokusai Museum (Tsugarau-ke Kamiyashiki Ato)”
    It’s about a 5-minute ride. After getting off, turn left at the traffic signal Midorimachi Koenmae and you will see the museum (silver building) in front of the railway overpass.
Is there on-site parking?
We do not have on-site parking spaces for cars and motorcycles.
Please use other nearby parking lots.
How much time does it take to see all exhibitions?
Your time may vary, however it may take a minimum of about an hour to view all exhibitions. Please plan sufficient time when visiting the museum.
Can I re-enter the museum?
Re-entering the museum is not allowed.
Checking a umbrella and luggage
Umbrella stands and coin-operated lockers (100yen) are available.
If your luggage is too large for the locker, we can provide storage at the reception on the ground floor.
Are there any places for eating?
The museum does not have any areas for dining.
You can take a drink in designated areas: the foyer on the first basement floor, the entrance on the first floor (except in the museum shop), and the foyer on the third and fourth floor. (Beverages are limited to non-sugar drinks in order to protect the exhibits.)
You cannot eat, drink, or bring food/beverages in the exhibition rooms.
Do I need a permission to link to your website?
You may link to our website freely as long as it is not used for commercial purposes.
However, please refrain from using direct links to pictures or pdf files on the website.
